Ms. Angele Zaboura, the General Manager of Beit Jala Pharmaceutical Company (BJP), confronts all the challenges that face Americans who lead companies like BJP. This industry has high standards for safety that must be followed by the over 200 people who work there.
Yet, BJP and all their employees face severe restrictions on their movement out of their immediate area. Although Jerusalem is less than six miles away, it is difficult for nearly all BJP employees to travel there without securing special permits from the Israeli government. The checkpoints in the wall surrounding Bethlehem control all goods and people that leave the area and goods that enter the area are tightly controlled.
Even though the people and the company face many hardships associated with the Israeli occupation, they have achieved several special certifications from the Palestinian Authority as well as other countries in the region and in Europe.
